I am a strong believer that virtualization is going to be one the biggest gamechangers we have seen in IT so far. Or has this already happended. One of the key factors in this (future) succes of virtualization is the commoditization of the Hypervisor.

Recently I ran into an interesting whitepaper by VMware that compared the performance of the different storage protocols: Fibre Channel, iSCSI and NFS. It seems that the whitepaper doesn't do a good job in comparing all the relevant tasts of all these protocol but it is interesting nontheless.

Who said VDI was fried air? Yesterday, Desktone, a VDI startup run by a bunch of ex Softricity guys and gals, announced that they are going to go to market with their VDI solution in an ASP or Software as a Service (SaaS) form. What's really interesting is that they teamed up with someone the size of Verizon.

VisionApp has announced the availability of new version of their popular Remote Desktop Manager vRD: vRD 2008. This new version is much more than an update, it's an entirely new product from the ground up. But wait, it's not just good news... it's become a paid product.

My ex-colleagues over at Login Consultants have released updated versions of their popular Softgrid tooling: the SoftGrid OSD Editor 2.1 and the SoftGrid Migration Tool 1.1. They both provide additional functionality to deal with Softrid 4.5 features even though that is still in beta. Talk about bleeding edge!

When I think about it, VMware Workstation is actually the tool that I value the most of all the tools I carry around. Just today I V2Ved 7 Windows Server 2003 servers to my laptop to create a test infrastructure for a Virtual Access Suite setup. Where would I be without VMware Workstation?

Today I ran into this article (actually one of the Provision Networks developers pointed this one out to me) that reads like CSI: Terminal Server. The author of the article explains how they found the cause of SP1 and SP2 2003 Terminal Servers freezing at logoff.

I just got the heads up from DeNamiK that they are about to release the fourth incarnation of their popular Load-testing tool, DeNamiK LoadGen. This version packs some interesting new features as well as some changes in the licensing (good changes!)
