Recently Microsoft included a new feature into Softgrid that allows for OSD to be deployed as an MSI. This was done to optimize the integration with ESDs like SMS / SCCM. MSI do however require admin privileges. Or do they?

I was expecting this to happen. There's going to be a new "community driven" Virtualization event: the Virtualization Congress. It kind of reminds of BriForum, which is the community Application Delivery event. The driving force behind this event is Alessandro Perrili of Virtualization.info.

Microsoft is used to eating it's own proverbial dogfood. Proverbial because I'm sure the Microsoft cafeterias should be OK (I wouldn't know). One particular piece of dogfood that I was pretty interested in was Microsoft's TS Gateway pilot implementation. I knew that they were running this pilot but know they have published their results.

One of the changes in the RDP 6 client is that it is no longer possible to save passwords in RDP files. This does not seem to be the most popular feature of the RDP 6 client. Microsoft has deemed it necessary perhaps even because a fellow Dutchman, Remko Weijnen, found out ow RDP passwords were encrypted and decrypted in the RDP 5.2 client.

A lot has changed though the last two years. Microsoft, VMware and Citrix have stormed into the application virtualization arena seemingly overrunning SVS.

Ever since Microsoft announced their acquisition of Calista Technologies there have been sounds that this spells the end of ICA. After all, Calista promises to deliver a much richer multimedia experience than ICA will ever be able to do (unless Citrix very drastically changes the way ICA works). These rumors are of course resonated by Citrix competition...

Since about the time that Windows Server 2008 was getting out of the alpha stage, I've been getting questions about whether or not people would still need Citrix when Windows Server 2008 came out. Well, since Windows Server 2008 has officially been launched and all the features of Terminal Services are known, it's now possible to compare the two.

Remember Project Pictor (another project over at Citrix). Well, turns out it's not dead. It has, in good tradition, been renamed. It's been reborn as Citrix Virtual Design Studio and they are hiring!
