More application virtualization release candidates. Shortly after Microsoft announced the availability of the App-V 4.5 release candidate, VMware announced the availability of the release candidate of their application virtualization solution, ThinApp.

After Microsoft has kind of renamed Microsoft Application Virtualization to App-V, they announced that the release candidate for App-V (I'm going for this one since it's shorter) has been made available. It's about time.

Just recently my colleague Patrick Rouse demoed a technology that Provision Networks developed to allow for full fidelity video in a Terminal Server or Virtual Destkop sessions. Just recently an ever cooler demonstration was given. This time it's Provision Networks RDP graphics acceleration.

Just pinging a Terminal Server to see whether or not it's online is not always enough. Besides, the Terminal Server could be perfectly responsive to pings but not to actual Terminal Server sessions. This is why several products do a ping inside the RDP protocol to check for the status of the Terminal Service. Now there's a freebie tool for that as well.

In the good cheer of naming products alike, Microsoft has renamed their application virtualization for the second time in one year. Some time after Microsoft acquired Softricity and their flagship product Softgrid, they renamed it to Microsoft Application Virtualization. Today they announced that they renamed it again.

Windows Server 2008 Terminal Services introduced some neat enhancement. Unfortunately, to be able to use some of these new features you needed the 6.1 RDP Client. This client is a part of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows XP Service Pack 3. Time to take a closer look.

Vmware just announced that the product resulting from their acquisition of ThinStall will be renamed to Thinapp 4.0 (go figure with those version numbers). Anyway, if you want to find out what this is about, I ran into this cool review of the product.
