So for example, if you have a telephony (or “CTI”) application that requires a Virtual IP address and then you decided to publish Notepad and Adobe Acrobat Reader, these applications also draw a Virtual IP from the defined pool of IP addresses even if they are not specified in the “Monitor the following processes list” in the farm properties. If you only have a small range of IP addresses and need them all dedicated to the CTI application, you should not publish other applications on that server. Applications that require Virtual IP should be “siloed” on dedicated servers where users cannot inadvertently draw from the IP address pool. Read it all in CTX109207 here.
