"Even though we feel there's a difference between Altiris SVS and Microsoft SoftGrid (well, I'm not really sure how to call the product anymore) when it comes to the term virtualization, Altiris SVS is a pretty nice product which actually redirects instead of virtualizing. But then again, Citrix says it can virtualize a desktop, while all this time we thought it was called server based computing." "SoftGrid virtualizes and provides streaming technologies based on RTSP where Altiris SVS uses a file based redirection method to provide applications. SoftGrid provides mulit-user system support (like Terminal Server) while Altiris SVS does not. SoftGrid applications can be managed by RES PowerFuse (which I personally think rocks) and Altiris SVS application can not. Offcourse you are perfectly able to use groep policies to manipulate the applications's behaviour, but just not in it's virtual layer." Read the entire article here.
