Branch Office Infrastructure Solution 1.0
Tuesday, 11 July 2006 by Michel Roth
Streamlining a branch office infrastructure is basically a matter of consolidating services and applications, both by centralizing them (if possible) and physically co-locating them (if centralization is not possible). Streamlining branch offices can result in substantial benefits for companies of all sizes (especially large organizations and enterprises), and includes the following advantages:

• More efficient use of hardware and software
• More efficient systems administration and management
• Faster and more complete recovery of data in the event of a disaster
• Higher degree of standardization and automation

The Branch Office Infrastructure Solution (BOIS) deliverables provide conceptual information to facilitate the definition and deployment of a streamlined branch office infrastructure solution that provides a comprehensive set of core IT infrastructure services based on the Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003 operating system. The BOIS deliverables also include prescriptive guidance and best practices for implementing a complete, lab-validated single-server solution for the branch office using automated deployment tools. The automation tools are part of this download and are configurable for individual branch office deployments.

This download includes the following documents: Overview, Architecture Blueprint, Introduction, Planning Guide, Build Guide, and Test Guide. It also includes a toolkit that contains the scripts and other tools and job aids used to automate the build and deployment of the branch server.
