Citrix Plans Three Flavors Of Desktop Server
Friday, 30 March 2007 by Michel Roth
In an article on CBRonline, Citrix“ VP and general manager of the ISV's management systems group, Lou Shipley, comments on the versions of Citrix Desktop Server that will become available in the future. Ardence will be incorporated in to Citrix Desktop Server to stream OSes to (diskless) devices. This won't be anytime soon though, so Ardence will be "just a Citrix company" for the rest of 2007. Another thing he talks about, one that is on a shorter road map, is the ICA support for Windows XP and Windows Vista, PortICA will be added to Citrix Desktop server. Does that mean that Citrix Desktop Server today is nothing more than just the Connection Broker? Not exactly. Read for yourself:

"Citrix Systems plans to expand its Desktop Server product into three different offerings, including one where OS components are streamed on demand to a PC or thin client over the network, using technology from its acquisition last year of Ardence. Lou Shipley, VP and general manager of the Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based ISV's management systems group, said that today, Desktop Server is a connection broker between Microsoft's RDP and Cirix's ICA. In the next version of the product, however, he said it will be able to run multiple virtual, hosted desktops."
