Citrix Releases CTX_SmaUser Re-creation Tool
Friday, 01 December 2006 by Michel Roth
With the introduction of Presentation Server 4.0, Citrix completely overhauled the printing subsystem. One of the changes was the addition of a special Citrix user account: CTX_SmaUser . When this account is not functioning correctly, all kinds of problems can arise. Now that PS 4.0 has been around for some time now, people know not to mess with the CTX_SmaUser account. However, if you do run into issues with this account, Citrix now has provided a tool to let you easily recreate this account, in stead of having to go trough some pain-staking motions.

"The Citrix SMA Service and the Citrix Print Manager Service are configured to be started by a local user created during the installation of Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 called Ctx_SmaUser. If this user account is deleted or corrupted, printer autocreation may fail. SMA alerts are not sent and/or client printing does not function properly. The Citrix SMA Service and/or the Citrix Print Manager service cannot be started.

Ctx_Sma.exe is a command line tool that re-creates (if deleted) the Ctx_SmaUser account and checks and assigns all required access permissions. It also adds some new features, like supporting renamed/re-created ICA-TCP listeners.

Ctx_Sma.exe is platform language-independent; it can be run on any language/Multilingual User Interface (MUI) package-installed server running Windows 2000 Server or Windows Server 2003."
