Common Blunders Of Virtualization

Good use of virtualization can be a lifesaver for the resource-strapped IT manager. Not only can virtual machines improve hardware efficiency and maximize data center space, they can also ease future server deployment efforts and better segregate systems for added reliability and security.

While virtualization can be relatively easy to deploy compared to some of today’s more complicated technologies, there are still a number of pratfalls that IT managers can fall into when it comes to planning for and deploying virtualization in the small to medium-sized enterprise.

To help you avoid some of the most common blunders, we asked Raghu Raghuram of VMware (www.vmware.com) to weigh in with his advice. As the vice president for product and solutions marketing for virtualization’s largest company, market-leading VMware, Raghuram has seen customers face plenty of challenges with virtualization deployments. He believes that if IT departments can avoid a few of the most common gaffes, they can create a very smooth-running virtual environment.
