Friday, 17 March 2006 by Michel Roth
Computer Lab International (CLI) has added three new models to its ET4500 series of thin clients running Windows XP Embedded and Windows CE. Two feature PCMCIA expansion slots, while the third sports an unusual, three-quarter-length PCI card slot attached to its side.

The three new models are:

• ET4510x -- PCI slot expansion; runs Windows XP Embedded
• ET4520x -- PCMCIA slot expansion; runs Windows XP Embedded
• ET4520g -- PCMCIA slot expansion; runs Windows CE 5.0

All three models are based on the same system platform as the ET4500 and ET550, introduced last year, which uses a 667 MHz Via Eden processor complemented by up to 1 GB of RAM and 1 GB of flash memory, depending on the model. Additional key features include: graphics resolutions of up to 1280 x 1024 (depending on model); 10/100 RJ45 Ethernet with wake-on-LAN capability; USB 2.0 ports; RS232 serial ports; parallel port; PS/2 keyboard/mouse ports; and audio. Refer to our prior coverage on the ET4500 platform for full details.

Also Computer Lab International has presented the MT1500t, a Linux based Thin Client. The MT1500t has multiple terminal emulations to access mainframe, midrange, UNIX, Linux and other legacy applications, as well as Firefox browser to access Web-based applications, with Sun Java Virtual Machine (JVM). X Windows for graphical UNIX applications is also on board, as are Citrix ICA and RDP protocols to access Windows applications.
