"It seems that when the msi is assigned to the machine, the softgrid_wd_setup.msi will go into upgrade mode regardless if it is a first time install. A custom action, ISSetAllUsers (SetAllUsers entrypoint from SetAllUsers.dll), is called at runtime which checks the system for the upgradecode. The upgrade code is present on the system when the software is assigned using a GPO or the MSIEXEC.exe /jm switch. The same custom action sets a property IS_MAJOR_UPGRADE = "yes" and the install goes into upgrade mode regardless if it is a first time install. This will eventually result in a "1606 Could not access the network location error". Workaround Notes: • You have to edit the softgrid_wd_setup.msi directly, using a transform will not work. • You must be familiar with ORCA • These modifications are for softgrid v4.0.0.585 only. v4.0.0.524 seems like it has the same issues, but I have not tested or looked in to this version. • These modifications are at your risk, I will not be responsible for any issues that arise from these modifications • I will not provide any support for any of these modifications. Tested scenarios: - Clean system, XP SP2, assigned modified softgrid-wd-setup.msi (4.0.0.585) via GPO ->> OK - Clean system, XP SP2, manually installed softgrid-wd-setup.msi (4.0.0.524), rebooted & assigned modified softgrid-wd-setup.msi (4.0.0.585) ->> OK Read more here. If you need the altered MSI, let me know.
