"Backing up VMWare Servers has in the past posed quite a challenge to several IT administrators, simply because VMWare places a lock on the VMDK file as soon as it opens it. Imagine how simple it would be if this lock wasnt in place? Simply connect to the VMWare ESX Server and copy the folder containing all the server specific files to another location and to restore them simply copy them back.
