Hot! Citrix Hosted Client Solution (HCS) Paper
Wednesday, 23 November 2005 by Michel Roth
The Hosted Client Solution enables Windows XP desktops to be hosted in the datacenter and accessed by end users connecting to the data center using a Presentation Server Client. Citrix has issues to whitepapers on how to setup and configure HCS for Microsoft Virtual PC and VMWare Workstation.

Available Features
The Hosted Client solution has the following minimum client-side features:
• Client Drives: Users can share drive mappings between their virtual desktop and server drives (Vmware Workstation only)
• USB Key Drives: Users can access USB devices through their virtual desktops; however, the key must be connected prior to session startup.
• Audio (In, Out, and Bi-directional): Users launching a virtual desktop can hear and send voice audio (for example, using MSN Messenger).
• Large screen configurations: If the user has set up a dual monitor configuration, application windows launched on the virtual desktop are confined to a single monitor at startup.

Excluded Features
• Client-side printing is not supported.
• Client drive mapping is currently not possible with Microsoft Virtual PC 2004. The ICA client mapped drive letter appears inside the Shared older configuration on Virtual PC Settings but the actual mapping fails with an error.

This document guides you through the procedure of setting up and configuring the Hosted Client solution. Please contact your local Microsoft representative about licensing information for Microsoft Virtual PC software.
