HP Launches Thin-Client PCs
Saturday, 27 January 2007 by Michel Roth
Ok so the title is confusing to say the least but perhaps this just illustrates the position "thin-clients" have today. Anyway, HP have released two new Thin Client models: "HP launched two thin-client computers on Friday, pitching them as power-efficient, low-maintenance alternatives to desktop PCs for users in large enterprises, government and educational institutions.

The entry-level Compaq t5135 Thin Client and business-class t5530 Thin Client are the size of a paperback book, small enough to be bolted to the back of a flat panel monitor and free up extra desk space. They fit into HP's line of thin-client products below the higher-end, more flexible t5720 and t5725.

Aside from the operating systems, both models share the same hardware, said Manoj Malhotra, HP's product marketing manager for thin-client solutions. The common unit is a diskless, fanless computer with 64M bytes of flash storage, 128M bytes of RAM and a Via Technologies Inc. Eden processor, running at 400MHz for the 5135 or 800MHz for the 5530.

HP will sell the Compaq t5135 in the U.S. beginning Feb. 1 for $199, and Compaq t5530 worldwide beginning March 1 for $299."

The entry unit seems to be decently priced but and I'd love to take a look at it. I am afraid however that the video performance of that Via 400 MHz machine will be too low.
