MedEvac 2.1
Saturday, 07 October 2006 by Michel Roth
The Citrix support tool MedEvac has been updated to version 2.1: The tool can be used to identify a problem server in the farm by running tests against XML, RPC and Terminal Services on a specified server or against the least loaded server in the farm. So instead of using the old methods of publishing a distinct app to each server in the farm and launching them in succession to identify a problem, you can run the tool against each server.

To make it more usable in an enterprise environment, they added a command line interface and SMTP alerts so that an admin can run the tool in a batch script and have it send an alert on any failure. Further the tool has been enhanced to identify the least loaded server before running any test as well as making it possible to export a server list for later use, or even to browse for existing servers and applications.

The tool is a great weapon to use when tracking down an “intermittent” connection problem or a “black hole” server. The documentation for the tool is pretty good too. Plus the page has room for comments if you have any ideas for enhancements.
