Microsoft Reveals Kidaro Plans
Thursday, 29 May 2008 by Michel Roth
Microsoft has announced that they have completed the acquisition of Kidaro and with this announcement they have provided insight into what the Kidaro product range will look like now that Kidaro has been assimilated.

Shanen Boettcher, General Manager of Windows Product Management, talks about the future of Kidaro on the Windows Vista Blog. Some key take aways:

  • Kidaro Managed Workspace will be renamed to Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization
  • It will only be available to SA customers who have bought the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP)
  • It will be available no sooner than Q1 2009

"This technology [Kidaro] will help enable end users to run applications from multiple versions of Windows at the same time, with seamless windowing and menus, and without the confusion of logging into and seeing multiple virtual machine desktops. The product teams are working closely with our new colleagues from Kidaro to incorporate the desktop virtualization technologies into MDOP in the first half of 2009, under the new product name Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization. We will continue investing here because we know manageability is fundamental to broad corporate use of desktop virtualization."
