Microsoft Update Beta
Monday, 23 May 2005 by Michel Roth
Microsoft has been working hard to unify all software updates to simplify the process for users. A major step to accomplish this will be the new "Microsoft Update", which will soon replace the exisiting "Windows Update" and "Office Update" sites and include updates for many other Microsoft software such as SQL and Exchange.

The idea is simple to explain: just put all the updates in one place and automatically detect the need for them, no matter what Microsoft software is on the computer. Easier said than done... This requires that all different product groups at Microsoft agree on a standard way to package and deliver those updates. Quite a challange for such a large corporation with many diverse teams.

But it's never been so close. You can now try the beta on your own computer. Point your browser here.
