RTO Software Releases RTO TScale 4.5
Tuesday, 26 January 2010 by Michel Roth
One of the oldest TS addon product is not dead but very much alive and kicking: RTO Software released RTO TScale 4.5.

What's New for Version 4.5?

Support for Microsoft Windows Server 2008
TScale now supports both Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R1 and R2 in 32-bit and 64-bit environments.

Improved Advanced Optimizations
Version 4.5 also offers improved advanced optimizations without requiring any special configuration. In previous versions, you needed to know which applications to configure for optimization. Version 4.5 now automatically detects which applications are running inefficiently and optimizes their performance for you.

TScale 4.0 allows you to support 33% more users per server on average. However, TScale 4.5 using some new patent pending technology now supports 50% more users on average, offering significant cost savings.

Other Great Features

Support for Microsoft Application Virtualization (formerly known as SoftGrid)
Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) allows any application to run alongside any other – even applications that normally conflict, multiple versions of the same application, and many applications that previously could not run under Terminal Services. This eliminates the need for server silos and reduces the number of servers needed in the Terminal Server farm.

App-V's approach means that applications are centrally stored and then delivered and executed on Terminal Servers on demand. Application files are only delivered once from the App-V server to the Terminal Server, where they are cached for repeat use by multiple users. This makes business desktop application management more manageable while allowing secure access to applications on demand from the datacenter.

One of the downsides of using App-V is that it can have an impact upon scalability. The latest version of RTO TScale® is specifically designed to optimize App-V applications. This means that every terminal server in this server farm, is resource optimized (memory and CPU utilization) to increase the number of terminal server users supported on each server thereby improving capacity utilization of every server in the farm while ensuring application response time is kept up.

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Optimization
Increase VDI capacity on your VDI broker/server by optimizing the use of memory by Virtual Desktops all from a single interface. This will result in an increase in the number of virtual desktop supported by a single VDI broker/server from current levels. The percentage increase will depend on the virtual desktop enviroment.

Dynamic CPU Balancing
Many client applications work better on a single processor than on multiple processors. This is especially true in a published application/desktop environment. RTO TScale’s Dynamic CPU Balancing applies the most efficient affinity scheme for running processes, causing applications that perform more efficiently on a single processor to operate on a single processor automatically - effectively load balancing processors. TScale allows applications which perform best on multiple processors to operate without change.

Advanced Memory Manager
RTO TScale® dynamically manages your memory resources, reducing the memory used by an application when resources are not needed, increasing capacity, improving performance, and reducing application load time. Application Memory Management can reduce virtual memory use by 25% to 50%.

Application CPU Shaping
RTO TScale® eliminates freezes, spikes and sluggishness due to applications consuming more than their share of CPU. Our Application Shaping lets you easily eliminate negative impact on users of rogue applications, while still supporting high-CPU application peak needs.

Advanced Integration and Administration
The RTO Optimization Console is a multi-server, centralized management console that allows administrators to handle all installation, management, reporting and maintenance of RTO TScale® across large server farms.

Citrix XenApp Management and Optimization
The RTO Optimization Console was first integrated with Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 (now known as Citrix XenApp), and can be used to control it's Memory Optimization Management feature. This enables additional performance tuning and reporting not available in Citrix XenApp, such as collection of support data, virtual memory exclusion list management, virtual memory optimization history reporting, and virtual memory optimization scheduling.

RTO PinPoint® Integration
RTO TScale® is integrated with RTO Software's application performance monitor, RTO PinPoint®. RTO PinPoint® monitors mission-critical Windows® server applications in real-time to guide managers to specific performance issues before they degrade business operations.

Microsoft® Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions Support
RTO TScale® is now available in 64-bit as well as 32-bit versions. RTO TScale® takes advantage of the greater functionality and performance improvements available from the Windows x64 platform.
