Samsung Shows Off Thin Client Monitor With VOIP Support
Tuesday, 08 January 2008 by Michel Roth
At CES 2008, Samsung showed of a monitor. Well, it's kind of a multifunction monitor. It's also a Thin Client which is nothing really new. But wait. There's more! This 22 inch monitor also has a built-in 2.0 megapixel camera, microphone and speaker. This is what makes this monitor "V2oIP" ready. Even though the monitor also doubles as a Thin Client, there's almost no reference to be found on the specifications of the Thin Client component. All that I found was that this monitor runs WindowsXP embedded and offers a RDP and ICA Client by default.

With all these capabilities, this device can not really be called a Thin Client anymore. I guess Samsung is not worried about that. Suggested retail pricing is at $1249 which doesn't exactly make it a bargain.

The one thing that I really like about Samsung monitors is also something that bugs me in news like this. Usually Samsung monitors perform really well in high performance environments like gaming and video editing. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense in SBC /VDI environments where multimedia content is a challenge even if you were to hook up a $10,000 monitor.

Well, at least they look good. Most of the Thin Client monitors / Monitor Thin Clients aren't much a looker but not this baby.
