System Center Virtual Machine Manager Beta 1 Available For Download

The Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) Beta 1 is now available for download for beta testers. Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager is the latest addition to the System Center family of management products and provides centralized management of Windows Virtual Machine infrastructure. Virtual Machine Manager enables increased physical server utilization, centralized management of virtual infrastructure and rapid provisioning of new virtual machines by the administrator and users.

Hosts management by groups (including resources reservetion, permissions assignment and tasks issuing)
Virtual machines scripts, templates and profile repository (Virtual Machine Manager library)
Virtual machines automated creation and management by advanced scripting (with Windows PowerShell)
Virtual machines assisted placement among available hosts (with automated rating system)
Virtual machines centralized backup managment (with checkpoints)
Virtual machines assisted provisioning by web interface and pre-defined policies (Self-Service Portal)
Fibre Channel (FC) Storage Area Networks (SANs) integration (including virtual machines host-to-host migration)

To download the beta (if you are already registered):

1. Go to http://connect.microsoft.com/vmm/downloads
2. Sign in with your Passport or Windows Live ID that you used to register for the Beta
3. Download “VMM Beta 1”
4. Please make sure you read the Getting Started with Virtual Machine Manager and Requirements for Deploying Virtual Machine Manager before attempting to install VMM Beta 1, these documents include important information regarding your setup and can save you time.
