MultiFrame is an administrative tool for mixed thin-client environments, developed by the Norwegian company Linpro . The application allows you to manage, deploy and control access for several thin client types, using a single point of administration. Using MultiFrame you can create “thin clients” from aging PCs, enabling huge hardware savings. Multiframe is currently in version 2.0. Thincomputing.net has received details on what version 3 of Multiframe (lanch June/July 2006) will probably add:

MultiFrame Server will be based on a Linux 2.6 kernel
MultiFrame Server will run Apache 2 MultiFrame Server will be able to be installed on top of an existing Linux distribution (for instance Red Hat)

External database utilization
MultiFrame Server will be able to utilize an external db (for instance Oracle), and several MF servers will thus be able to share the same database.

MultiFrame Server will support DB dump and restore
MultiFrame Server will include improved inventory management (by using/supporting DMI, DDC, USB). MultiFrame Server will also support interactive client registration MultiFrame Server will support customized client naming

MultiFrame Client
• Based on a Linux 2.6 kernel MultiFrame Client will include X.org 7.0
• Improved USB support (keyboard, floppy, CD-/DVD-Rom, etc.)
• Support for encrypted USB memory sticks
• WLAN support
• VPN support
• Additional network authentication (WEP, WPA, 802.1x)
• Graphical control panel for selecting sessions, adjusting sound/keyboard/mouse, etc.
• Support for VOIP
• Includes dictaphone functionality
