Tracking User TSCALS in Windows 2008
Tuesday, 07 August 2007 by Michel Roth
One of the notable traits of Terminal Server licensing in Windows Server 2003 was the fact that there was no way to track User TSCALs. This had its upsides as well as downsides. Windows Server 2008 adds more upsides.
Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 Terminal Server licensing adds the capability to tracks User TSCALs. Note that there (as of beta 3) is no technical mechanism forcing you to adhere to your license agreement as is the case with Device TSCALS. This form of reporting exists solely to make sure that you are able to check if you are living up to your license agreement.

The ways you can check the User TSCALs are quite cool. You can use either the new TS Licensing Manager MMC or the new WMI providers that ship with Windows Server 2008. The Terminal Server team blog has all the details in a special User TSCAL tracking post.
