TSFactory To Release ICA-Recoding Into RecordTS Very Soon
Friday, 09 March 2007 by Michel Roth
TSFactory, started by ex-Terminal Services.net (now 2X) Claudio Rodrigues, is adding a ICA session recording capability to it's core product RecordTS very soon. For the record, RecordTS does not only captures the screen activity but it also captures transferred files, print jobs, keystrokes, and more.

Ever since Citrix announced Project IRIS and even released a downloadable technology preview, I've been very excited by ICA session recording. Not specifically for the means of auditing or other security purposes though. I think it could be of great use in (performance) troubleshooting or testing purposes. Think of the scenario where a new Citrix environment is being tested by a set of users and one user complains of horrible performance. Sure enough, if you would that user what they were doing at the time they experienced the problem they will reply with the ever-informative nothin'. With ICA session recording you can know just ask when they experienced that particular problem. ( and soon you'll find out that he was having a go at the query of the year award ).

Like I said, Citrix was almost ready with Project IRIS (the technology preview worked OK) when IRIS went silent for almost two years. Recenty, Citrix revealed that IRIS has been revived and integrated with Project Gemini. Seems like RecordTS will beat Citrix to a potential punch.

I will take a look at a beta of RecordTS next week or so and create a Thincomputing.net Premo about. Stay tuned. If you can't wait for that, you can preview this new release of RecordTS at the upcoming CeBit show in Hannover, Germany or the upcoming FOSE show in Washington, DC.
