Friday, 10 March 2006 by Michel Roth
Unisys today announced that it has expanded its relationship with VMware. Under terms of the expanded relationship, Unisys will now offer the enterprise-class suite of VMware virtual infrastructure products on its ES7000 Server portfolio. VMware virtual infrastructure products enable companies to implement large-scale production server consolidation, business continuity, and enterprise desktop solutions with high performance, availability and manageability. The suite includes VMware ESX Server with Virtual SMP and VMware VirtualCenter with VMotion technology. In addition, Unisys intends to certify its ES7000 for use with VMware ESX Server.

VMware's ESX Server allows the ES7000 to provide increased resource efficiency and faster provisioning, critical requirements to the implementation of real-time infrastructures which are becoming key to organizations running secure business operations. Unisys is aggressively working to help clients establish secure business operations by aligning business strategy and processes with information technology, enabling organizations to minimize risk, operate in a fully trusted environment and maximize business opportunities.

In expanding the VMware virtual infrastructure products Unisys will offer, Unisys will further enhance its ES7000 family of server-based solutions. The company's ES7000 servers are designed to give clients the reliability, stability and security traditionally found in mainframe environments on industry-standard hardware. VMware virtual infrastructure - which has proven successful in production use at more than 20,000 customers worldwide - enables customers to simplify their IT, fully leverage their existing computing investments and respond faster to changing business demands.

Based on the successful use of VMware GSX Server with these server products, the companies have extended their alliance to include VMware ESX Server with Virtual SMP and VMware VirtualCenter with VMotion technology on 2- and 4-processor ES3000 servers.
