"Karthik assured me that VDI will work well with a network latency of up to 150 milliseconds, and told me that there are several VDI proof-of-concepts that go from coast to coast, and even a couple of companies doing intercontinental VDI!" Well, this is not earth shattering news. It just goes to show that VDI is (in this case) nothing more than a Published Windows XP Desktop. Depending on what you're users are willing to put up with 150ms of latency is the max for a normal user experience. Since latency is very hard (if in some cases not impossible) to tackle, you will yourself back in the regular old SBC world. It's back to doing everything possible to get the latency down and/or the user experience up: removing splash screens, not doing video, caching, image "acceleration" (SpeedScreen)... "Last but not least, Karthik showed me some features of VMware’s own connection broker VDM... VDM is currently in its 1.0 incarnation, and 2.0 will ship by the end of the year, complete with functionality the company picked up in the Propero acquisition." So that's two birds with on stone. VMware is continuing working on their own Broker and they (again) confirm that they've acquired Propero and are in coopering their Broker technology in their own Broker product.
