VMware Lifecycle Manager
Wednesday, 27 February 2008 by Michel Roth
VMware, amongst a slew of other announcements, at VMworld 2008 announced a new product called VMware Lifecycle Manager. This is the product that resulted from their acquisition of Dunes and focuses on the relatively new market of Virtual Machine lifecycle management.

Lifecycle Manager focuses on automating the process and procedures of facilitating virtual machines. Lifecycle Manager allows IT administrators to create a catalogue of services, then "funnel" all requests for virtual machines through an approval process. It allows companies to implement a consistent and automated process for requesting, approving, deploying, updating, and retiring virtual machines.

VMware also released three other "new products but they don't appeal to me that much as a SBC/VDI person:

  • VMware Lab Manager
  • VMware Stage Manager
  •  VMware Site Recovery Manager
Press release.
