Windows Server 2008 RTMed; x64 Already Available To TechNet Plus Subscribers
Tuesday, 05 February 2008 by Michel Roth
Today marks another important day in the Server Based Computing world. Today, February 4, Windows Server 2008 was Released To Manufacturing (RTM). Oh and Vista Service Pack 1 as well. The x64 bits of Windows Server 2008 are already available to TechNet Plus Subscribers.

In all the Windows Server 2008 RTM commotion, don't forget Vista SP1 because you need it to to use TS Web Access. So here's the lowdown of what's available right now:

  • Windows Server 2008 Datacenter, Enterprise and Standard (x64) in English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish
  • Windows Automated Installation Kit 1.1 (x86, x64, ia64) in English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish
  • Windows Server 2008 Multilingual User Interface Language Pack (x64)

Additional editions and language versions will be made available over the next few weeks. I think the fact that nearly all the x64 editions are available first is a bit weird but perhaps Microsoft is trying to make us get used to the idea. The next version of Windows Server will probably only be available in a 64 bit format.

More info.
